It's been a topsy-turvy affair for Indian boxing in the past couple of years. With the International Boxing Association (AIBA) suspending the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF), the Indian pugilists have been the worst sufferers. But ahead of the Commonwealth Games, the boxers are hoping to put up a good performance despite the odds.
Caught in the AIBA-IABF tussle, the boxers were deprived of participating in National championships and foreign tours.
And even though the world body has given provisional recognition to the newly-formed Boxing India, things haven't changed much for the boxers. However, the eight-member men's team, which left for Glasgow on Tuesday, insisted that they would put up a brave fight.
"It's like straightaway appearing for a competitive examination without taking the preparatory tests. While most of the countries took part in international tourneys, we couldn't. But we have worked really hard in the camp and also have fair experience. That should count," Vijender Singh, who will lead the Indian challenge in CWG, told TOI.
